We did not ask ourselves how to sell gold online — that is the easy question. We asked how to move the salon itself: the light falling across a piece, the quiet counsel of a woman who knows what suits you, the certainty that what you are holding is one of one. How does all of that reach a screen you carry in your pocket? So we started with the hardest part: the photograph. Every piece in the house is shot on the same lens, at the same angle, under the same light, against the same ground. When you compare two necklaces, you compare them the way you would on the velvet of a tray — not the way you compare two advertisements competing for your attention. Then the price. Gold moves by the hour, and anyone who hides that from you is hiding something else too. Every piece is tied to today's gram rate, and the arithmetic is set out line by line: the gold, the making, the hallmark. Not one opaque figure you are asked to trust, but a calculation you can check yourself. Along the way we learned that time is the real currency. Someone running a growing business does not have two hours to browse a hundred pieces, and does not want to. So you are never left alone with the catalogue: your advisor knows the occasion, the budget and the taste, and narrows the hundred to five.
